The Hidden Kingdom

They say there's a kingdom above the clouds
A kingdom that no human can see
They say there is no king or queen,
A place where everyone is free

In the kingdom there’s a palace so scenic,
That its beauty is unknown to mankind
In the kingdom there's a grassland full of flowers,
With vibrant colors so defined

But the kingdom hides a dark secret,
A secret unknown to the citizens,
The kingdom conceals its bruises,
Falsifying their deadly sins

A kingdom masked by the cold mist,
A kingdom so distorted,
It mustn't truly exist

But the kingdom full of lies,
Lays there,
Before your very eyes

  1. When I read this poem I think about the government hiding secrets from citizens and showing propaganda and wearing a "mask". I dont know if that was your intentions with this poem but it can also be directed to an individual. I really enjoy reading your poems and seeing different topics discussed in the poems, such as social injustice, or whats going on around us right now that the media wont cover. Keep it up!

  2. I imagine the kingdom in your poem as the government/people of a country and the horrible things they had to do to succeed. For example, America has been thriving for centuries. Even way before it was called the United States and it was just a random piece of land that apparently Christopher Columbus discovered. How was America able to become the America we know today? As time went on, it was learnt that the Native Americans that were living in the country before the Europeans arrived were captured by them and enslaved. African Americans were transported to the country as well and forced to do work. All the credit went to the Europeans for creating this land when they really didn’t do anything but treat people like animals. As you say in your poem, “but the kingdom hides a dark secret, a secret unknown to the citizens, the kingdom conceals its bruises, falsifying their deadly sins” this is one of the many things that people did in the past to create a civilization and most individuals at the time didn’t know that. They were too obsessed with the idea of this new society and didn’t know a society like this could exist because it sounded too heavenly from the stories they were told. Today, governments have many secrets on how their country was formed that we don’t know but it’s there and we’re taught something else in school. Our kingdoms are full of lies. I love your poem, it had me making connections to the real world.

  3. I strongly agree with my fellow classmates on how this can relate to the government hiding secrets. They use freedom as the definition of America but secretly work their way around it to do whatever they please. They create catastrophes and wars so that it'll be in their interest. An example of this would be the Vietnam war. The U.S had finally admitted to faking a certain type of attack on their own men just to start this war for the economy to boost up. "The Kingdom full of lies" is a perfect reflection of our government today and how its illegal work hides in the shadows.
