The title mentions the miles between Syria and United States.
6,677 Miles
Can you hear the cries of children,
From 6,677 miles away?
The desperation ringing in the air; stifled screams that you don’t hear,
The thundering footsteps running in fear.
Can you hear the streets pleading for help,
From 6,677 miles away?
The skies rain fire; their home has become their hell,
Where is it safe to hide? How can they even tell?
Can you hear the bombs go off,
From 6,677 miles away?
The weeping sounds of children; many who are now motherless,
The clouds darken; rendering life colorless.
Why can’t you hear the screams of 18 million people,
From 6,677 miles away?
Wow. This left me speechless! I love the title you choose and I love that you can instantly see its significance. You did a wonderful job explaining the horrific warfare on the innocent civilians and in my opinion it makes the audience very emotional. Emotion needs to be felt in these kind of situations to cause change, you should share this poem with the world to help cause attention to this tragedy. But wow, amazing!
ReplyDeleteI watched videos of kids in Syria suffering and it was horrific. Your poem gave me mental images of these cries and deaths occurring. I love your title as well, I love how it makes it feel like its so far yet so close. We know whats occurring there but nouns taking a stand to help them. I also loved the repeating of the "6,677 miles away". Amazing poem.
ReplyDeleteAmazing piece you wrote here Expressing exactly what’s going on over there I also enjoyed your title when you read it at first it keeps you wondering what is “6,667 miles away” if there’s any way you can add in the country of Syria would help reads that don’t know the back ground story. This line gave me goosebumps as it got me very emotional “the weeping sounds of children; who are now mother less” just the thought of it is so sad as if their autonomy is being taken away because they are children and unfortunately they do not have a fighting chance. I’m glad you made the poem because you put some deep meaning into this piece and I hope you were able to let go of some frustration as you wrote this poem.
ReplyDeleteThis poem really connects to the everyday conflicts Syria faces.
ReplyDeleteI agree with my fellow student Era on how this truly paints a image in your head about the horrors these people face. Also, this poem really hits the reader emotionally on how they feel for these people and how we wish we can help them in their battle against the Regime and ISIS in any way possible. This title shows the reality of what everyday life and struggles the people of Syria face. Excellent work!
